London Architecture: In the City

Just as I've taken a notice in the architecture around my neighborhood, I've also noticed the building styles in the city of London. Everyone here refers to the center of London as the city, where most business work takes place, and everywhere else outside of the city is called London. What I took notice to the most in terms of architecture and design with these buildings, was the use of glass windowing. It looks like they almost even use windows to replace typical walls. I personally love the look of glass and big windows, I think it can really open up a space, and invite people in. I would think it would also be a plus for all the business men and woman who would rather be looking out of a window than staring at a blank wall all day. Just like many other city style buildings, these follow the same sky high, multi-story rules, reaching farther than my head wants to look up. Some buildings also coat there windows in this weird blue material that I am still unable to identify (shown in the last two pictures below). Maybe they work to keep out bright sunshine? I'm not sure, so I'll have to keep you posted on that one. The last thing I noticed were the unique shapes the buildings make here, it's not how we would normally see them in say New York, they don't go straight up like a box. Sometimes the have arcs, sometimes they are in the shape of a circle. Overall I found it interesting to see how gracefully London is able to mix their traditional old-style buildings with many of these newer style city buildings, half the time I don't even realize we have entered the city until I've really looked up and seen what is surrounding me.
